whiskey barrel bar

Where to start with this beautiful, handcrafted 53-gallon whiskey barrel bar?  This cabinet is crafted using a 53-gallon oak whiskey barrel that was used to age whiskey for many years.

As you can see, the interior walls are all black due to the burning of the wood to create the charred effect that will ultimately help remove the impurities from the whiskey over the years.  As we prepare the barrel, part of the process includes lightly sanding the interior so that some of the loose debris can be removed.  We try not to remove too much material from the inside so that we can preserve that rich whiskey aroma that is produced from these barrels.

That being said, if you were to run your finger along the black interior walls, you will likely have some of that black soot material on your finger so be careful not to touch anything that you don’t want to leave black fingerprints everywhere!

This whiskey barrel bar is vintage and full of character!  Our Base Model option on the right includes what you see here in the picture on the right, along with LED lighting.

Whiskey barrel bar

What makes our whiskey barrel bar such a unique piece of furniture?  Whiskey essentially sits in these barrels for years aging, and over time the whiskey will soak into the wood.  This causes the barrels to expand and creates that powerful watertight seal.  Once we start breaking open the barrels and working with the wood, we are removing wood material from the outermost layers, and we want to try and remove as little as possible to help preserve the aroma.

Something that many customers have appreciated is the application of a stain to help match different room décor.  If you have a style or specific stain in mind that you want us to apply to your whiskey barrel bar, we can custom make that barrel for you with the stain of your choice.

Here are some customizable options for your barrel if you so choose:

  1.       Custom stain
  2.       Custom lighting choices (some people prefer a different lighting style)
  3.       Choice between a “newer looking barrel” or a “rough older barrel”
  4.       Lazy Susan installation (weight limits will apply)
  5.       Door Addition

Whiskey barrel cabinet Custom lighting

Our lighting is set up so that we can surround the inside of the whiskey barrel cabinet with as much light as we can so that once you have the barrel filled, your bottles will all light up and show some amazing colors.  Some people prefer that the lighting all be hidden so that if the barrel is empty, you cannot see any of the lighting hardware.  We can customize that for you, but you may not have the same lighting effect once the barrel is full.

We like to use LED tape lighting or rope lighting so that we can create 360 degrees of light coming from every direction.  This light will reflect through the bottles and show off your collection nicely.  The base price for our barrel comes with our standard lighting setup.  If you would like a different lighting setup, the price will adjust based on the expense of the customization.

Whiskey Barrel Cabinet Custom Stain Options

We like to use Minwax stains on our whiskey barrel cabinets.  We find that there are many options available for the stains.  Our base models stick to stains that complement the oak wood well.  We use a natural oak stain and a honey oak stain often to avoid drifting too far from the original beauty of these oak barrels.

We have no issue with using a stain that you suggest, but we have no way to guarantee that the stain will come out the way that you intend.  We can do test runs on some oak staves if you like, but these types of customizations may involve an adjustment to the price so be prepared for this if you intend to customize a large number of items.

Whiskey barrel cabinet door addition

As you can see in this picture, we have options to add a door to your whiskey barrel cabinet.  The door is a customization that takes more time to complete so the price is adjusted for that reason.  The door features a dual black hinge hardware setup along with a clasp that allows you to apply a lock if you so choose.

Something to consider when adding a door is that now the total footprint of the cabinet has increased to accommodate the area taken up by the door when it is open.  This means you will need to make sure that the space that you put in the cabinet is large enough to accommodate the swinging door.  With the door-less model, you do not have to worry about any additional space around the barrel.

Lazy Susan Options

We can also add an option to install a lazy Susan in your whiskey barrel bar.  The great part about the lazy Susan option is that you can turn the shelves and access bottles easier that would be located in the back.  This option will increase the price on your project, and there are weight limits that you will have to adhere to.  For example, each barrel has two shelves to store your bottles.  The shelves will be supported by the lazy Susan, and the lazy Susan hardware has a maximum weight that it can support.
